SIBU (July 13): Teachers should encourage young children to dream big, and to work hard towards achieving those dreams, said Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak Datuk Michael Tiang.

Speaking at SJKC Kiang Hin’s ‘Teachers’ Day’ celebration at Tanahmas Hotel on Thursday, the Pelawan assemblyman said the future of these children should be bright, especially with the government pledging to implement free tertiary education by 2026, giving them more opportunities to showcase and develop their talents.

“Teach them to dream big and that they have the capabilities to realise those dreams by working hard.

“Since the Sarawak government is going to implement free education in 2026, which will give our children more opportunities to shine, it is important that we train them to dream big and encourage talents,” he said in his speech, read by Penghulu Ting Tiang Huat at the event.

Adding on, Tiang also called upon teachers to continue their dedication in educating their students despite all the challenges and workload.

“Being dedicated means doing what is needed to ensure the children are brave enough to excel in their endeavours.

“They are our future leaders and this country depends on them to bring our nation forward.

“That is why it is important for them to have the correct mindset, and yes, to dream big,” he said.

Also present were Sibu Education Office representative Kiew Soon Lee, SJKC Kiang Hin board of management chairman Kapitan So Teck Kee and SJKC Kiang Hin headmaster Ling Ing Kiong.
