SARATOK: Many projects will be implemented to enhance the agricultural infrastructure in the Kalaka constituency next year, according to Mohamad Duri.

The Kalaka assemblyman said, “After being entrusted by the people, I focus on providing and upgrading agricultural roads in all areas.

“For example, improving roads to ensure that agricultural activities are not disrupted, and organising drainage systems to prevent water stagnation.

“I am grateful that several roads have been completed, and, God willing, many more (related to agricultural infrastructure) projects will follow,” he said.

Mohamad made the remarks while inaugurating the Agricultural Development Programme for the Kalaka constituency at the Sri Krian Community Hall yesterday (Dec 7).

Among the initiatives, Mohamad highlighted the upgrading and construction of new sluice gates and related work in Kampung Kupang, Pagan, Perpat, Rumah Panjang Tanjong and Kampung Paloh.

“The government will also upgrade agricultural roads, embankments, and related work in the areas of Sungai Nyiar, Jelupang, and Plunga. Additionally, there are plans to upgrade Lubok Nibong road in phases,” he added.

He encouraged the community to engage in fertigation cultivation.

“In line with this, we have provided a technology briefing session to introduce our community to fertigation cultivation.

“I believe officials from the Sarawak Agriculture Department, such as Hassan Ali, have shared a lot of knowledge about this new method, including modern agricultural transformation that provides opportunities to increase income.

“At the initial stage, it can be attempted in home gardens. I am confident that if managed properly, the returns can be substantial,” he further explained.

The gathering, attended by the Deputy Director of Development Division of the Sarawak Agriculture Department, Badin Unor, attracted around 150 participants.
