MIRI: Deputy Health Minister, Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, has assured that there are sufficient child specialists at the Miri Hospital to meet the needs of the community.

“We have five specialists, which is enough for our current needs,” he said following the launch of the ‘Kembara Sihat Sejahtera HEPiLI’ with Didi and Friends here Sunday.

“Additionally, the opening of the new hospital block (Block B) children’s ward is part of our comprehensive effort to enhance healthcare services.”

He emphasised that the recent initiatives, including the new ward, reflect the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services in the region.

Highlighting legislative support, Lukanisman mentioned the passage of a provision in parliament to simplify the process of registering specialist expertise.

This, he said, will address any potential shortfall in medical professionals.

During the press conference, Lukanisman was also asked about the murder of Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah, a 25-year-old woman who was reported missing on July 10.

Her body was discovered in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sri Kledang, Hulu Selangor, on July 15.

“We, the members of parliament from Sarawak, also assisted (Minister) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri in facilitating the affairs of the deceased’s family.

“In addition to counseling services, we would like to inform Nur Farah’s family that they can reach out for any assistance.”

A 26-year-old policeman has been arrested to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
