MIRI (Oct 22): Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin today called on the Miri City Council (MCC) and contractors in charge of rural transformation programme (RTP) projects to ensure they are implemented according to standard.

He made this call after finding defects after inspecting a recreational park in Desa Pujut as well as the upgrading works of a recreational park and basketball court in Permyajaya.

“When a project is implemented, I would like to request the implementing agency, which is MCC, to look at the design with more detail. Here I found there is a lot of water ponding and cracks on the floor.

“I hope they can ensure repair works are being done accordingly and the floor surface to be made more evenly, to avoid water ponding. It is very important to prevent water ponding, because it can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes – that may lead to bigger public health issues,” he said.

The park was built at a cost of RM171,811 and was completed in September. The construction involved a jogging track, bollard, railing and other general works.

On the RM150,000 upgrading works at the recreational park in Permyjaya, Lee expressed dissatisfaction over the out-of-standard basketball court lines, cracks and other works that needed improvement. The project was completed in September.

To date, 23 recreational parks in residential areas in the Senadin constituency have been implemented under RTP.

“These parks were built with the intention to offer a place for family bonding. I like to see residents and their family members do outdoor activities like exercise as well as interacting with other people in the local community. It is very important to strengthen the unity in the community, as well as promote health lifestyles,” he said.
