Evening fire destroys one room, damaging another in Jalan Padungan shoplot

KUCHING (Sept 30): A fire broke out on the first floor of a shoplot in Jalan Padungan here last night, completely destroying one rented room and partially damaging another.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the owner managed to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher before the firefighters arrived.

Bomba said they received a call at 7.40pm, and firefighters from Padungan fire station were rushed to the scene.

“The fire involved a two-storey shoplot, breaking out on first floor, which houses six rental rooms. It affected two of the rooms.

“One room was 100 per cent destroyed, while the other sustained only five per cent damage. Overall, the first floor sustained about 20 per cent damage.”

Bomba said firefighters proceeded to conduct overhaul works and ended the operation at 9.01pm after the situation was deemed safe.
