KUCHING, 17 Sept: Minister of Public Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi welcomed the government's decision to expand the transfer facility for BUDI MADANI Diesel (BUDI Diesel), which he described as a measure taking into account appeals and needs of the people.

He said any effort that can alleviate the burden of the people should be given attention, including in implementing the subsidy policy.

"We welcome anything that can be said to lighten the burden on people. So the subsidy is nothing more than to lighten the burden on the people", he said.

He said this at a press conference after the Consignment Meeting of the Customs Enforcement Office Stores Construction Project, here today.

Nanta said the government at the same time should take into account economic considerations in managing subsidies, but the appeals of the people also need to be considered in making decisions.

"While we can think deeper in terms of the economy, it may be a good thing if we make, reduce subsidies and so on to manage the economy, but because of appeal and so on, we also have to take into account the appeal of the people", he said.

According to him, the approach is a form of compromise between the need to manage the economy and efforts to reduce people's burdens.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a speech on the occasion of Malaysia Day 2026 on Wednesday said that the government agreed to extend the facility of transfer of BUDI Diesel qualifications to any real users of eligible, private diesel vehicles with immediate effect.

Previously, transfer of qualifications was only permitted to immediate family members.

Under the new rules, registered owners who have more than one private diesel vehicle can also transfer qualifications to a maximum of three other individuals, subject to the number of vehicles owned and conditions set. - TVS
