KUCHING: Pressing environmental and social challenges facing the tropics will take centre stage at the upcoming 2nd International Conference on Tropical Sciences (TropSc 2024).

Scheduled for Oct 16-17 in Sarawak, the conference will bring together local and international experts to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in four key areas: Tropical Agriculture, Tropical Architecture and Engineering, Tropical Medicine, and Tropical Natural Resources.

Organised by the Tropical Science Foundation (TSF) and co-hosted by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), the conference will also explore three special themes: Climate Change in the Tropics, Open Science in Tropical Biodiversity, and the Protection of Indigenous and Local Knowledge.

“TropSc 2024 is a crucial platform for addressing the pressing environmental and social issues the tropical regions face,” said TSF Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali.

“By fostering a multidisciplinary approach, we aim to leverage the tropics’ immense natural and cultural wealth to ensure a sustainable future for coming generations.”
The event will lead to the establishment of the Alliance of the Tropics and the Kuching Declaration for the Tropics, aimed at fostering long-term collaboration and commitment to sustainable development in the region.

The conference is open to local and international participants with registration available on the ASM website.
