MIRI: The constant issue of water reservoirs in low-lying areas that resulted in water accumulation on a 300-foot dirt road at Pujut Padang Kerbau has been resolved.
Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii has funded the RM3,000 dredging project through his Minor Rural Project (MRP) initiative.
It was noted that last month, Indra Hussin, the chairman of the smallholders planters in the area, sent a letter to Adam Yii, requesting for the trench dredging project, which has caused significant transportation difficulties for local farmers.
The government promptly approved the project, demonstrating their commitment to the community’s needs.
Yii, who is also Miri’s mayor, along with Penghulu Samion Ghani and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pujut youth chief Kelvin Hii Shin Yang, visited and submitted the project alongside chairman Indra.
Apparently, heavy rain the whole morning distrupted the project’s completion. However, after the rain stopped in the afternoon, Yii arrived to survey the area and noticed that there was no more stagnant water on the road, displaying the project’s immediate effectiveness.
“The completion of this project reflects the government’s concern for agricultural development and the improvement of the living environment for agricultural production,” said Yii.
“Agriculture is a vital economic activity in this area. A road that no longer stagnates water will help agricultural products enter the market more easily, benefiting both farmers and consumers.”
Local farmers commended the completion and expressed their gratitude for the government’s support and concern.
