Fatal accident in Kuching claims life of 43-year-old foreigner

KUCHING (Sept 25): A 43-year-old foreign man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a car along Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha here at around 9.30pm on Monday.

Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the collision is believed to have occurred when the car, which was turning right into a junction, was hit by the motorcycle travelling straight from the opposite direction.

“The motorcyclist sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead by doctors at the Sarawak General Hospital’s emergency ward at 11.35pm,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of RM50,000, upon conviction.

He urged anyone with information related to this accident to come forward and assist with the investigation by contacting the case’s investigating officer, Insp Charlie Aloysius, at 014-8682068, or call 082-259900 BSPTD Kuching, or any nearby police station.
