KUCHING (Aug 14): Break away from routine or conventional thinking to develop creativity and innovative culture, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah called upon members of her ministry, departments and agencies.

The Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) said this in a text speech delivered by her deputy, Datuk Rosey Yunus, who represented her at the closing of the Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC) Convention here today.

The existing way of working, she said, might no longer be relevant to the current times, hence the need for the ministry to hold the ICC Convention annually to cultivate innovation culture and towards becoming a solution provider to stakeholders and target groups.

“Innovative, creative ideas do not only come from the upper management level. Through the implementation of ICC, all ideas including those from the implementation groups are also taken into account,” said Fatimah.

The innovation culture, she added, is not new in Sarawak.

“As we can see, our Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is a creative person and his innovative ideas include looking into new mechanisms to identify new sources to increase Sarawak’s income.

“I believe KPWK and its departments or agencies have many creative people with critical thinking who can become the catalyst of the innovation culture,” she said.

A total of 13 teams comprising 89 participants took part in the KPWK’s ICC Convention.

Top three teams with the best ICC projects were rewarded with RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM1,000 cash prizes respectively, as well as trophies and certificates of participation.

Also present at the event were KPWK deputy minister Datuk Mohd Razi Sitam and departments’ directors under the ministry.
