SIBU (Aug 9): Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah led a delegation from the Sarawak Women and Family Council to the temporary transit centre (TTG) for the homeless.
The Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister said the visit was in connection to the state-level Women’s Day 2024 celebration held in Sibu at RH Hotel here today.
“I want the delegates to see the government’s initiative on helping the disadvantaged and the needy, in this case, the homeless,” she told reporters when met after the visit here today.
She added that since TTG Sibu was established in 2021, the centre has catered for 180 homeless individuals.
“With the success of TTG Sibu, we look forward to establishing a TTG in Miri, Kuching and Bintulu.
“TTG Kuching is expected to begin operations on August 31 and is in the process of finding a non-governmental organisation to run the centre,” she said.
Moreover, she said TTG Miri is expected to be complete on Dec 27, as TTG Bintulu is expected to begin operations next year.
Fatimah added that her ministry will work closely with a special committee under the Home Ministry to resolve documentation issues among the homeless.
Also present during the visit was her Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus.
