SIBU: The federal government strongly encourages and welcomes the participation of all parties in organising programme in collaboration with the government to enhance the well-being of children, said Alice Lau.

The Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat said that the contributions or assistance are not limited to financial or material forms alone.

“If we can spare some time, contribute energy, and provide mental and spiritual support, it can also generate positive change and bring immense joy to children in need,” she said in her speech at the Family Fun Run Programme here today.

The programme was organised by Pusat Aktiviti Kanak-Kanak (PAKK) Sibu Jaya and Child Protection Team (PPKK) in collaboration with two nearby schools, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sibu Jaya and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sibu Jaya.

Lau, who is also the Lanang MP, also stressed that children are valuable assets to the nation and they require effective stimulation to cultivate resilient personalities.

“One crucial programme to be implemented is sports and recreational activities. Sports serve as an effective form of therapy in instilling positive values, physical and emotional strength, discipline, teamwork, and a high spirit of resilience.

“Children need constant exposure and appropriate guidance to understand the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and striving to become the best version of themselves,” she added.

Hence, Lau congratulated the organisers for the success of hosting an event aimed not only at raising funds for PAKK Sibujaya operations but also serving as a platform to promote a healthy lifestyle in our community.

“Indeed, the element of health is a crucial segment in safeguarding the well-being of children. Without a healthy body, a child cannot learn optimally at school and may miss golden opportunities to develop their potential.

“Therefore, the ‘Family Fun Run’ programme is a timely effort to ensure active participation of children with their family members and friends in practicing a healthy lifestyle. Such events create healthy competition and strengthen the participants’ determination to strive to win and complete the run,” she said.

There are four categories that are contested in the programme, including the primary school category, the secondary school category, the adult category, and the PPKK Members category.

Lau also presented a total of RM6,450 in cheques for the use of PPKK Sibu Jaya.

Also present were PPKK chairperson, Lolita Jimmy and others.
