SHAH ALAM, Sept 26: The federal government is set to announce stricter measures to ensure graduates’ qualifications translate into suitable jobs and fairer pay under Budget 2027, to be tabled on Oct 9.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government was in the final stages of preparing the budget, with more serious efforts being formulated to ensure wages rise in line with graduates’ qualifications.

“I previously conducted a study on productivity growth and wage increases. Take South Korea, for example. Productivity is high, and wages have also increased accordingly.

“In Malaysia, productivity continues to rise, but wages have increased only slightly. So, we have to use the government’s authority to exert some pressure,” said the Prime Minister, according to a news report by TVS.

He said this when responding to a question on the government’s measures to address fair wages and ensure graduates’ qualifications are appropriately recognised during a question-and-answer session at the UiTM Alumni Friendly Gathering with the Prime Minister at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam today. — DayakDaily
