Fire at Miri kindergarten destroys storeroom, badly damages kitchen

MIRI (Oct 2): A fire broke out in the kitchen of a kindergarten at Taman Delight, near Miri Airport early this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre said it received a distress call on the incident at 6.50am.

“Immediately after receiving the distress call, a team of firefighters from Bomba Miri was deployed to the location some 11km from the station.

“When they arrived at 7.10am, there was indeed a fire involving the kitchen of a kindergarten,” Bomba said in a statement.

The department said the fire caused significant damage to the kindergarten.

“The storeroom was completely destroyed while the kitchen was about 80 per cent damaged in the fire,” said the statement.

The operation ended at 7.57am.
