Fire breaks out at Jalan Green convenience store in Kuching

KUCHING, Sept 21: About 35 per cent of a two-storey convenience store at Jalan Green here was damaged in a fire on Sunday night (Sept 20).

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 8.19pm, and firefighters from the Batu Lintang station were deployed with assistance from the Padungan station.

The fire broke out at a convenience store in a permanent two-storey building measuring approximately 40 x 10 feet.

The Batu Lintang team conducted firefighting operations using two 100-foot hose lines and two nozzles.

Approximately 35 per cent of the store, mainly the front section, was affected by the fire, which subsequently spread towards the middle of the premises.

Ventilation efforts at the middle and rear sections of the store successfully reduced the spread of the fire.

The operation was brought under control by 8.30pm and concluded at 9.03pm.

No casualties were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire and the estimated value of losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
