Fire damages double-storey house in Sibu

SIBU (July 14): A double-storey house at Lorong Bukit Lima Timur here was damaged in a fire this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said the fire destroyed about 50 per cent of the house, measuring 20 feet by 40 feet.

Bomba said they received a distress call at 9.10am and deployed eight firefighters from the Sibu Central fire station to the scene.

“Upon arrival at the location, the operation commander reported that the fire involved a double-storey house.

“The fire started at the front porch, where the area was used as a storage for equipment such as oxygen cylinders, tyres, and other machine tools,” it added.

Bomba said the occupants managed to escape to safety during the incident.

Bomba said the firefighting operation ended at 10.43am, and the cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
