Fire damages solar panel-laden container lorry in Betong

KUCHING (Aug 4): A fire damaged a container lorry carrying solar panels to Batang Ai near Kampung Jelukong, Jalan Lubok Antu, Betong, around 7.20am today.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the fire also affected the solar panels inside the container.

“The 43-year-old driver pulled over to the side of the road after noticing smoke billowing from the rear tyres of his lorry,” said the statement.

The lorry was said to be headed to Lubok Antu from Kuching when the incident occurred.

“After calling Bomba, the driver proceeded to separate the lorry with container as a precaution,” it said.

At the scene, the firefighters managed to extinguish the fire by using water and foam from their fire engine.

The firefighters wrapped up the operation after ensuring that the fire would not reignite.

The damages incurred and cause of the fire are still under investigation.
