Fire destroys Miri police quarters unit, family of seven left homeless

MIRI (Aug 6): A fire around 7pm last night destroyed one unit of the Miri District police headquarters (IPD Miri) quarters, leaving a family of seven homeless.

No one was injured in the incident.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre said it received a distress call on the incident at 7.10pm.

“Upon receiving the call, a team of 14 personnel was immediately despatched to the scene.

“When they arrived, there was indeed a fire involving one unit of government quarters belonging to IPD Miri,” Bomba said in a statement.

The statement added that the unit involved was on the third floor of the quarters.

“The unit was 80 per cent destroyed in the fire,” Bomba said.

The cause of the fire and value of damages are still being established.
