KUCHING (July 28): A single-storey terraced house at Taman Syn Syn, Matang, was destroyed in a fire that started around 10.20pm last night.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement today said a neighbouring house was partially destroyed in the incident.
“Two motorcycles parked in the compound of the first house were destroyed by the fire, while another two motorcycles parked at the second house were damaged by the extreme heat,” it added.
Bomba said no injuries were reported, as the occupants of both houses managed to escape to safety.
At the scene were firefighters from the Padungan fire station, who managed to extinguish the fire at both houses, which measured to about 111 square metres.
After ensuring that the fire would not reignite, the firefighters wrapped up the operation at 11.44pm.
In a separate incident, firefighters from the Serian fire station were deployed to a house at Taman Pasir after a fire broke out in the living room around 4am this morning.
According to Bomba, the fire caused minor damage to the house and destroyed a sofa in the living room.
“The firefighters had to cut open the house’s padlocked gate and break the glass sliding doors to gain entry into the house,” it said.
By using a water that was sourced from the fire truck, the firefighters managed to extinguished the fire. The operations ended at 5.29am.
Bomba said no injuries were reported as the occupants of the house had exited the house by climbing out of a window located on the upper floor.
The causes of both fires are still under investigation.
