The rented house which is partially destroyed in the fire earlier this morning.
SIBU (July 23): A rented house at Lorong Laichee here was partially destroyed in a fire earlier today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said they received a call about the incident at 5.47am and 10 firefighters from Sibu Central fire station were dispatched to the location.
“Upon arrival, it was found that thick smoke had emerged from the front door of the house.
“The house measuring 18 feet by 40 feet, was occupied by two men, who managed to escape to safety during the incident,” it said.
Bomba said the firefighters proceeded to extinguish the fire through the front door and the back of the house.
“The fire destroyed about 50 per cent of the house. The firefighters ended the operation after ensuring the situation was safe,” it said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
