KUCHING, Aug 22: The first autism-friendly playground in Malaysia will be built at Palmarium Park, under the jurisdiction of the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng announced that the RM485,000 project, undertaken by Jennifer Resources, is expected to be completed within four months by Dec 21.

Speaking at today’s site handover ceremony at Palmarium Park, Wee said the project will be closely monitored by both the MBKS Youth Council and MBKS management.

“This playground is much more than a place to play. It represents our community’s commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of their abilities, has a place where they can grow, learn, and find joy,” he emphasized.

Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) president Dr Catherine Chen expressed her gratitude to MBKS for initiating the project.

“We hope that with this, our children and adults with autism will have a place where they can relax and develop skills alongside their family members. I am certain the playground will greatly benefit the community,” she said. — DayakDaily
