Five Indonesian men, Chinese man arrested over Kota Sentosa eatery brawl

KUCHING, Sept 21: Police have arrested six men in connection with a brawl at an eatery near Kota Sentosa Market on Sept 18.

Padawan district police chief Supt Barry William said the suspects were arrested in two separate operations conducted by the Padawan Criminal Investigation Division under Op Cantas.

The first operation on Sept 20 at around 3pm saw five Indonesian men arrested in the Kota Sentosa area.

A 26-year-old Chinese man was subsequently arrested today (Sept 21) at around 5.30pm.

All six suspects were detained to assist investigations into the incident, which occurred at around 7pm on Sept 18.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or other dangerous means.

The suspects are expected to be brought before the Kuching Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Sept 22) for a remand application to facilitate further investigations.

Padawan police also thanked members of the public who provided information that assisted in identifying and arresting the suspects.

The public is encouraged to continue providing information to the police to help maintain public safety and order.

The brawl was previously reported to have left a 28-year-old man injured at an eatery in the Kota Sentosa Market area on Sept 18.

The victim was reportedly assaulted by a man known to him and several others, sustaining injuries to his head, back, hands and legs.

He subsequently sought treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.

Police had earlier launched investigations and urged members of the public with information on the incident to come forward. — DayakDaily
