KUCHING (July 12): The Maal Hijrah Festival (FMH) 2024 officially commenced with the flag raising ceremony held at the Sarawak State Mosque here today.
The ceremony was officiated by the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) chief executive officer, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
The symbolic flag raising was initiated with a parade by the FMH official flag bearers from the LAKMNS Auxiliary Police Unit, accompanied by the LAKMNS Band Group and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Sarawak Contingent Bagpipe Group.
The festival, which will be held from today through July 14, is an annual event organised by LAKMNS with the aim of commemorating and revitalising the Hijrah (migration) new year celebration.
The festival also serves as a platform to promote mosque activities and position the mosque as a healthy recreational center.
Additionally, the festival aims to promote a healthy lifestyle based on religious values through programmes featuring spirituality, family, sports, and more.
Some of the festival’s activities include the Malam Cinta Rasul, Gema Haflah, Rahmah Sales, public and private agency information kiosks, health programmes, and various competitions such as berzanji (prayer and praise) and marhaban (welcome), street soccer, and silat.
There are also stalls selling food, beverages, clothes, and more.
