MARUDI: Persistent heavy rainfall throughout the night triggered flash flooding in Rh Judan Selin at Sungai Dabai this morning (Nov 23).
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that they were alerted of the incident around 11 am and deployed firefighters from Marudi station to the scene, about 15km away.
The team reported that a flash flood had indeed occur in the area while they were on their northeast monsoon patrol.
They found an overflow of water from both left and right ditches on the road, subsequently inundating the main road.
It resulted in flash flooding with water levels estimated at about 0.2 to 0.35 metres high in low-lying areas.
Further observation at the longhouse revealed that the water levels were about 0.3 to 0.4 meters high inside the residences.
Although the overflow towards nearby creeks displayed swift current, the patrol team anticipated a complete recession of the flood in the next few hours.
No evacuation operations were carried out as the residents were accustomed to flash floods in the affected residential area.
Despite this, the team advised residents in the vicinity to take precautionary measures if deemed necessary.
