MARUDI: Food supplies have been delivered to 20 flood-affected areas in the Marudi district, with a total of 1,244 food packs distributed to the affected communities.
The relief efforts, coordinated by the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department, assisted by the Marudi Civil Defence Force (APM) and RELA, took place over a two-day operation starting Monday (Oct 14).
The floods have impacted 2,303 people in the region, including residents and those at key facilities.
Among the recipients of the aid were four schools and a health clinic located in Long Panai.
These critical supplies were transported using watercraft known locally as ‘Kapal Bandung’, given the challenging access due to floodwaters.
The areas that received aid include Kampung Lubuk Tumau, Rumah Jipun Tanjong Upar, Rumah Vincent Tanjong Upar, Rumah Mugang Tanjong Upar, Rumah Philip Tanjong Upar, Long Mano, Lubuk Kulat, Kampung Benawa, SK Benawa, Kuala Tutoh, SK Kuala Tutoh, Long Patan, Long Paloh, Long Ukok, Tutoh, Klinik Long Panai, SK Long Panai, SMK Tutoh, Long Panai, Linei Bukit, and Rumah Gerinang Tasong.
Marudi Fire and Rescue Station chief Maureen Sim noted that while floodwaters are receding in some areas, other locations continue to experience rising water levels.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to provide further assistance if needed.
