Forum to chart Belt and Road path

SIBU: To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, a Belt and Road forum will be held at the United Chinese Association (UCA) premises here today (Aug 24) at 2pm.

Organised in collaboration with the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Sarawak Branch, Datuk Lau Nai Hoh Foundation, and Hao Yi Development Sdn Bhd, the forum is expected to draw significant attention.

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, will officiate at the opening ceremony.

Other notable attendees include the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Xing Weiping, and UCA president, Lau Ing Siong.

The forum will feature presentations by Dr Wu Er Bei Mi, a Lecturer in the History Department at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China, and Professor Tang Hau Ming, a Lecturer in the Economics Department of the Bachelor’s Program at Methodist Pilley Institute, Sibu.

Dr Wu will discuss “The Belt and Road Initiative” and Sarawak’s Comprehensive Cooperation, while Professor Tang will explore the initiative’s impact on Sarawak’s economic development and opportunities for local businesses.

The organising committee invites representatives from registered associations, unions, schools, and other social figures to attend the event and contribute their valuable insights and plans for future economic development in the central region.

On-site registration will be available on the day of the event.
