SIBU (July 17): SJKC Tiong HIn, SK St Mary, SK Bahagia Jaya and SK Perbandaran No. 4 recently had their school facilities upgraded with funds from the Sibu parliamentary constituency’s ‘Program Mesra Rakyat’ (PMR).

Sibu MP Oscar Ling said the funding included provision of teaching equipment and upgrading works for these schools.

For SJKC Tiong Hin, he said the allocation from the PMR programme included purchasing of projectors and visualiser to enable the students to learn and understand better.

For SK St Mary, Ling said he purchased two large smart TVs for the school’s auditorium to provide teachers and students with a better visual sense when programmes are held.

He also used the funds to purchase story books to enhance students’ interest in reading, broaden their knowledge and improve their language skills.

“The aim is to cultivate students’ interest to read story books,” he said in a statement.
As for SK Perbandaran No. 4, he said the funds were used to purchase television, computers and visualisers so that the school could build digital classrooms.

“The upgrade of the school facilities has greatly enhanced the learning environment and effectiveness of the students.”

Ling said they also helped pave the walkway for SK Bahagia Jaya after demolishing its old wooden bridge.

“The rain-covered wooden bridge was a basic facility leading to the kindergarten classrooms.

“However, due to old age, many of the wooden planks had decayed, hence posing a risk to teachers and pupils.

“It posed extreme danger to children running across the bridge due to its slippery condition.”

Ling said the cement walkway gave the children a greater sense of safety.

“I will continue to take care of the schools and communities in my constituency to provide a safe learning environment for the children.”
