SONG, 14 September: Search and rescue operation (SAR) of a man who was reported missing in Ulu Sebuloh forest area, Nanga Temalat enters fifth day yesterday, but the victim has not yet been found.

The victim, Freddie Manggie, 51, was reported missing after entering the woods with his brother-in-law around 7:00 a.m. on September 8 to search for leaf litter.

According to police reports, at about 4:00 p.m., the victim complained of stomach pain before asking permission to find a place to dump big water.

However, after waiting for more than two hours, his brother-in-law began searching and calling the victims around the area, but could not find them.

His brother-in-law then returned to the Long House at about 6:00 p.m. to inform the residents of the incident.

The search for the victims was resumed by residents on the following morning before the official SAR operation was carried out with the involvement of various agencies.

According to the Centre for Operational Movements (PGO) of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak, operations started yesterday at 8.30 am after a briefing by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Bombs.

The SAR team made it to Checkpoint 1 at 11.30am and Checkpoint 2 at 12 noon before continuing the search in the area.

"The search and rescue team returned to the Disaster Operations Control Center (PKOB) at 4.10 pm prior to a briefing from District Police Chief (KPD) Song and Bomba Song at 4.40 pm.

"Operation SAR on the fifth day was suspended at 6:00 p.m. by order of Operation Commander, KPD Song, and will resume today", according to the statement.

A total of 24 members and villagers were involved in the operation, consisting of nine Bomba members, six PDRM members, five members of the Malaysian People's Defence Force (APM) as well as four villagers.

The operation also used a four-wheel drive vehicle.
