SIBU (Aug 24): A total of 68 dogs were vaccinated during a free anti-rabies vaccination exercise held at Zheng An Methodist Church here today.

The event was jointly organised by Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Association, Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sibu, and Sungai Sadit Rural Development and Safety Committee.

Association chairman Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau said 58 dogs were vaccinated for the first time while the remaining canines received their second dose.

“The response was encouraging as the people realise the importance of keeping their dogs vaccinated,” he said.

Additionally, Lau said there was a separate counter set up by Sungai Sadit Rural Development and Safety Committee to help those over 60 years old to apply for their Kenyalang Gold Card and Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) scheme.

He reminded senior citizens to take advantage of the government’s various initiatives and welfare policies.

“The SCHB is part of the government’s efforts to provide medical benefits to the people of Sarawak,” he said.
