KUCHING (July 21): A total of 214 pet owners had their dogs vaccinated against rabies during a mass rabies vaccination campaign held at the SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa’s covered basketball court here yesterday.

Another 165 dogs received microchip implantation while 164 other pets had their registration done at the same event.

The campaign was a collaborative effort of the state government, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and state Veterinary Services Department to provide free rabies vaccination, installation of chips and registration of pets.

In addition, the authorities also offered financial aid of RM150 each to eligible individuals for neutering their pets.

MPP chairman Tan Kai was pleased to note that the campaign had received good response from the community.

Given the prevailing rabies cases, he called upon all pet owners to bring their dogs for vaccination against the deadly disease.

He said they should not miss out on these opportunities since the government is subsidising rabies vaccination, microchip implantation, registration of pets and neutering service.

“Only through concerted efforts and joint responsibilities could we fight rabies,” he stressed.
