KUCHING, Sept. 18: Freedom of work and expression should not be used as an excuse to undermine the institutions of the King, Malaysia or Rukun Negara.

Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said such action was irresponsible, excessive and totally unacceptable.

"There is no room for any party to play things that touch the institution of the King, the sovereignty of the country and the foundations that shape life in our country.

"Malaysia is a country that practises Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy, with His Highness Her Majesty the Queen as Head of State", he said in a statement today.

Earlier, a staging video uploaded to social media two days ago was alleged to contain elements of contempt against the institution of Raja, Malaysia and Rukun Negara.

In this regard, Aaron requested the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation.

According to him, the inquiry should take into account all relevant legal provisions, including the Penal Code, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 as well as the Sedition Act 1948.

"Appropriate and appropriate legal action must be taken to remind that the freedoms enjoyed by every citizen come with a responsibility to respect the law, national institutions and the harmony of society", he added.

He also emphasized that Rukun Nasional is not just a phrase read in official ceremonies.

"Rukun Nasional is the national ideology and philosophy as well as a guide in building a united nation", he said.
