BANGKOK, 13 September: Sarawak Prime Minister, His Highness Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, continued his mission to strengthen Sarawak's position in the global energy agenda through an official visit to Thailand for GASTECH 2026 Conference and Exhibition.
The visit was at the invitation of the Thai Ministry of Energy, thus opening up space for Sarawak to expand its strategic network and explore cooperation opportunities in the energy sector.
During the visit, Brother Johari was scheduled to hold a meeting with the founder and chief executive officer of the global group, Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited.
It is part of an effort to strengthen ties with industry players as well as open up new opportunities for cooperation and investment.
He will then attend a closed ministerial roundtable discussion that brings together leaders and industry figures to discuss the future of the energy system.
The discussions are expected to focus on building more resilient energy systems, as well as accelerating electrification and low-carbon development.
Among the agendas to be touched is the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and capital mobilization in developing future energy systems, including new energy pathways that can support sustainable economic growth.
The highlight of the visit agenda was Brother Johari's participation in Energy Talk: Growth, Abundance and the Courage to Decarbonise, through a special fireside chat session that will focus on growth, energy abundance and courage implementing the decarbonisation agenda.
Sarawak's participation in GASTECH 2026 is seen as important in strengthening the state network internationally, besides showing its availability plays a greater role in shaping the regional and global energy landscape.
GASTECH 2026 in Bangkok from 14 to 17 September is expected to bring together more than 50,000 participants from 150 countries, including government leaders and energy industry players from around the world. - TVS
