KAPIT (Nov 3): The participants of the ongoing PRS Youth Inter-Division Badminton Championships 2024 are encouraged to visit the attractions here and also to make new friends among them.

This was highlighted by Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang at the opening ceremony for the three-day competition, which took place at the Dewan Masyarakat Melayu in Bletih here, on Friday.

He and Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai jointly officiated at the opening ceremony for the inaugural group-league badminton tournament.

Sponsored by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is the state Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, the competition gathers 14 teams representing the constituencies of Serembu, Balai Ringin, Simanggang, Engkilili, Batang Ai, Ngemah, Tamin, Pelagus, Bukit Goram, Baleh, Belaga, Murum, Samalaju and Senadin.

“Many of you are first-time visitors to Kapit, so I warmly welcome you to our town.

“I hope that after the game, you would not be in a hurry to return to your districts; instead, I welcome all of you to spend some time visiting our attractions such as the Lily Pond, Kapit Waterfront Esplanade, Kapit Town Square and also Fort Sylvia.

“Furthermore, this badminton tournament is not only about competing, although I do expect that all of you would do your very best.

“That said, I call upon the players and officials to make this game a platform to know one another better, especially because all of you are from different divisions in Sarawak.

“Nurture the spirit of comradeship and sportsmanship throughout this competition,” said Nyabong in his speech

Among those in attendance were Deputy Kapit Resident Robert Liman, ASP Anthony Apui of Kapit District police, PRS Youth deputy chief Supai Anthony and its deputy publicity chief Andy Lawrence, Kapit Badminton Association vice-chairman Rajis Nyalau, and the championships’ organising committee chairman Russel Geramong Wilson.
