KUCHING, June 30: The Giant Family Ride 2026 brought together around 100 cyclists from Malaysia and abroad for a two-day adventure that showcased Sarawak as a premier cycling tourism destination, blending challenging routes, scenic landscapes and vibrant urban exploration into one immersive experience.
Organised by Giant Bicycles Malaysia with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), the event, which concluded over the weekend, drew participants from West Malaysia, Sabah, China, Costa Rica, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, underscoring Sarawak’s growing international appeal in sport tourism.
Held under the theme “Ride Sarawak: Where City Meets Nature,” the first day featured a demanding 90-kilometre ride through picturesque countryside and highland roads, offering riders sweeping views of rural landscapes and natural terrain.
The second day shifted pace with a 70-kilometre Kuching city ride, where participants explored heritage sites, waterfronts and key urban landmarks in a more relaxed setting across Kuching.
Beyond the rides, many participants extended their stay to experience Sarawak’s food, culture and tourism attractions, contributing directly to the local visitor economy and reinforcing the growing value of cycling events as a driver of sport tourism development.
In a media release yesterday (June 29), organisers said the strong turnout and positive response reflect Sarawak’s rising profile among the global cycling community, with its mix of challenging terrain, scenic diversity and warm hospitality positioning it as an increasingly preferred destination for future events.
They also expressed appreciation to MTCP, relevant government agencies, sponsors, volunteers and safety personnel for ensuring the smooth and successful execution of the event, which helped elevate both participant experience and event safety standards.
Building on this year’s success, Giant Bicycles Malaysia said it looks forward to returning with an even bigger edition, continuing to promote active lifestyles while further highlighting Sarawak’s tourism potential on the international stage. — DayakDaily
