KUCHING: Sarawak has etched its name in the history books of the Para SUKMA Games, not only by clinching the overall championship title but also by being recognised as the best host throughout the event.
Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah attributed this double victory to the unwavering dedication of the tournament management, coaching staff, and the Sarawak contingent.
“Our primary goal of making Sarawak the best host was achieved, and the secondary objective of reclaiming the championship has also been fulfilled,” she said during a thanksgiving and prayer ceremony for the Para SUKMA 2024 contingent at Imperial Hotel today (Sept 29).
“The positive feedback from all participating contingents and our 82 gold medals earned us the overall championship title. On behalf of our ministry, I congratulate the entire Sarawak Contingent,” Fatimah added.
In related news, Fatimah announced that the incentives for medal-winning athletes remain the same as those offered during the recent SUKMA.
Individual gold medalists will receive RM15,000, silver RM5,000, and bronze RM3,000.
Team incentives vary based on the number of members.
“For two-member teams, each member will receive RM7,500 for gold, RM2,500 for silver, and RM1,500 for bronze. Three-member teams will receive RM5,000, RM2,000, and RM1,000 for gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.
“For four-member teams, each member will receive RM3,760 for gold, RM2,000 for silver, and RM1,000 for bronze. Teams with five or more members will receive RM3,000, RM2,000, and RM1,000 for gold, silver, and bronze,” she added.
Looking ahead, Fatimah revealed that the athletes will undergo intensive training in preparation for the 2026 Para SUKMA event.
Sarawak is confident in its ability to produce well-prepared and competitive athletes for future tournaments.
