KUALA LUMPUR: A new initiative known as “1 Rumah, 1 Jalur Gemilang,” has been launched to boost the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians in conjunction with this year's National Day and Malaysia Day, says Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister said encouraging Malaysians to proudly fly the Jalur Gemilang at home is important as the flag symbolises the country's independence and unity.
"I want all Malaysians to hoist a full and proper Jalur Gemilang, meaning a flag that is not torn, worn out or faded," he said in his speech at the launch of the Ekspresi Bulan Kebangsaan 2024 programme here on Sunday (May 19).
He added that the programme would kick off the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
"The programme will be conducted simultaneously in Penampang, Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak," he said.
He said various programmes would be held throughout the month, including national exhibitions, artistic performances, photo booths, and children's colouring contests.
Fahmi also reminded Malaysians to be careful what they share on social media.
"Now that there is a fast Internet connection across the country, slander has spread faster than our Internet.
"We must be careful with all the information and to verify it before sharing," he said.
"For instance, there was a viral social media post about a receipt which allegedly contained words deemed insulting to Islam.
"After further checks, it was found that it did not come from the restaurant but from a customer with bad intentions.
"We and the police are investigating the matter," he said.
