KUCHING, Feb 6: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is set to launch the GPS Roadshow to bring government initiatives and development programmes directly to the people, particularly in rural areas, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Datuk Martin Ben.

Speaking after the first-ever GPS Youth meeting today involving leaders from PBB, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Martin said the gathering focused on coordinating youth members to assist in mobilising communities and communicating government programmes more effectively.

“A lot was discussed on how we can activate GPS Youth across PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP to go to the ground and explain all government initiatives to the people at the grassroots level,” he said.

He added that the GPS Roadshow is planned for the near future to engage communities across Sarawak, although funding arrangements are still being finalised.

Martin also said the meeting was an opportunity to welcome newly appointed youth chiefs for the 2025–2027 term, noting that PRS recently held its convention, while PDP is expected to do so soon.

“We shared issues, although not many, but the focus is on explaining government initiatives, especially on development in rural areas,” he said.

On the possibility of an upcoming State election, Martin said GPS Youth will follow the direction of the coalition’s top leadership.

“Once it is decided, if we face a State election this year, I believe the youth movement will play a role in helping GPS win all seats,” he added.

Responding to a question on whether GPS machinery is ready should the State assembly be dissolved, Martin said youth wings from all component parties are consistently active on the ground.

“From PBB’s side, we are always in the field carrying out programmes and assisting our assemblymen in their constituencies.

“I believe PRS, SUPP and PDP are doing the same. It may not always be publicised, but we are always on the ground,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
