KUCHING: Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap visited SJKC Sam Hap Hin in Batu Tujuh to deliver a grant of RM157,480.00 from the Sarawak Government’s Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).

This grant, secured with his support, aims to assist the school in repairing and upgrading its buildings, toilets, and library. The visit took place today, August 30.

During the ceremony for handing over the UNIFOR grant, Wilfred Yap reminded the school board to strictly follow financial regulations when spending the funds, ensuring that expenses align with the scope of their application.

He also urged them to submit periodic progress reports to UNIFOR until the grant is fully utilised.

“Given the current pace of progress, all schools must collaborate with the Sarawak government in enhancing the quality of education to meet the anticipated demands of high-skilled employment and development in Sarawak over the next five to ten years,” Yap stated in a release.

He further stressed the significance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in supporting and driving the growth of Sarawak’s expanding economy.

“The provision of tuition-free STEM courses in local higher education institutions in Sarawak is a step in the right direction, as excellence in STEM is vital for the development of human capital and plays a critical role in enhancing workforce efficiency and productivity to elevate Sarawak’s economy up the value chain,” he added.

Yap highlighted that Sarawak can achieve significant milestones through unity of purpose, unwavering determination, and self-confidence among all Sarawakians.

“Together, we are constructing a future that is not only prosperous but also sustainable and responsible,” he remarked.

He expressed his commitment to continue supporting all schools in his Kota Sentosa constituency by advocating for additional government grants to ensure that their equipment and facilities meet satisfactory standards.

These resources are essential in empowering students to be well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, aligning with the Sarawak Government’s vision for a thriving society driven by data and innovation.

This vision aims to ensure that every Sarawakian, regardless of race or religion, can partake in the economic prosperity of the region.
