KUCHING, March 5: Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) has signed a strategic collaboration with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), a United States-based technology company, to enhance the state’s sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and private cloud infrastructure.

Formalised in Barcelona, Spain on March 2, the partnership aims to develop a secure, State-controlled cloud and AI platform, ensuring that all data, AI models, and computing workloads remain within Sarawak. It will also improve public service delivery, increase operational efficiency and cultivate local AI talent.

“Under this agreement, HPE will support the modernisation of the Sarawak government’s private cloud environment by providing scalable, on-demand infrastructure and flexible consumption-based services.

“It will also introduce secure AI systems supported by high-performance computing, reliable storage solutions, advanced networking security, and enterprise-grade AI platforms to enable efficient AI development and management,” SAINS said in a statement today.

SAINS Chief Executive Officer Busiai Seman said the partnership lays the foundation for a trusted digital ecosystem that safeguards data and enhances public service delivery.

Meanwhile, HPE Malaysia Managing Director Toh Kean Cheah said it will help Sarawak build a scalable, resilient, and future-ready digital platform.

The agreement was signed at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona by SAINS chief operating officer Andrew Chien and HPE Indonesia managing director Jason Ong, witnessed by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Datuk Liwan Lagang. – DayakDaily
