ADVERTISE HERE
SIBU (Sept 21): Everyone must have a sense of responsibility and work together to ensure that the town remains peaceful and safe, said Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang.
He said this is crucial when it comes to drug-related issues since drugs are a major cause of the increasing crime rates, with individuals engaging in illegal activities to sustain their addictions.
“When authorities are forced to divert much of their attention to stopping crime and drug abuse, the economy will inevitably be burdened.
“That is why creating a safe and thriving community requires the efforts of everyone,” he said in a text speech read by Albert Tiang at the opening ceremony of ‘Sibuku Aman’ Carnival held at Permai Lake Garden here today.
Adding on, Tiang said a safe city becomes a hub for business growth, which in turn creates jobs and increases property values.
“Schools can operate without fear, providing a conducive learning environment for our children.
“It attracts investors and tourists, all of whom contribute to a strong local economy. Therefore, the importance of a safe city cannot be overstated,” he said.
Tiang thus urged everyone to work together, especially with the authorities, to ensure the town’s safety.
“When we look out for one another, we are investing in the well-being of our families, the prosperity of our businesses, and the future of our children,” he emphasised.
Also present at the ceremony were Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) secretary Yong Ing Chu, and event organising chairman Councillor Raden Khairulzaman Raden Bustari.
