KUCHING (Oct 18): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a 25-year-old unemployed man to six months in prison for possession of 1.61 grammes of methamphetamine.
Muqriez Aiman Zahran Zamzami pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to a charge framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
According to the charge, Muqriez committed the offense on July 11 at around 11.30am by the side of Lorong Blacksmith, Jalan Petanak here.
The facts of the case showed that a police team apprehended Muqriez, who was riding a motorcycle, on suspicion of involvement in drug activities.
Upon inspection, the police found three transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances, believed to be methamphetamine, weighing a total of 2.50 grammes in a bag placed in the motorcycle basket.
The items were sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis and a report dated Aug 30 confirmed that the packets contained 1.61 grammes of methamphetamine.
Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution, while Muqriez was not represented by legal counsel.
