KUCHING: Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has labeled the ‘Dubai Move’ as a waste of time and is advising the individuals involved to redirect their attention towards helping to recover the country’s economy instead.

The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture said if the action of certain individuals accused of trying to overthrow the government for personal political gains is true, then it indicates that they want to turn a blind eye to the country’s economic uncertainty due to various political changes in recent years.

“The people hope for stability and economy recovery, but some parties are willing to jeopardise the people’s welfare for their own gains.

“The people are struggling with high living costs and have no time to entertain the country’s political drama.

“Hence, all politicians should realise this. Politicians have a significant responsibility to rebuild the country’s image and restore foreign investors’ trust in the nation,” he said in his Facebook post.

Tiong, who is also the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president and Bintulu MP, added that those attempting to topple the government will fail.

He then claimed that individuals said to be involved in attempting to overthrow the government once held the highest positions in the government.

“When in power, you ‘menikus’ (kept quiet or did not object due to fear). When out of power, there are many criticisms and plans made to regain it. What is your actual motive?

“So, I appeal to everyone to respect the choices made by the Malaysians and fulfil the people’s desire by expediting the country’s economic recovery. Moreover, political stability is the key to continuous development for any nation,” he said, while urging individuals involved in the ‘Dubai Move’ to stop their plans.

If a country’s politics is unstable, all parties, especially the people, will be affected, he added.

“Why can’t we give a chance to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to demonstrate his capabilities, assess and evaluate the performance of the chosen Cabinet members? If unsatisfied, translate it into votes in the next elections.

“Instead of causing concern that could lead to the people’s division, it’s better to invest your energy and time in serving the people.

“Show your accomplishments or service to win the people’s support and respect, in turn, strengthen your chances in the next elections. By doing so, the people will be more confident,” he said.

Tiong went to say politicians must not use cunning tactics for personal agendas as it could also affect the country’s future.

Previously, the Malay daily Berita Harian reported on the ‘Dubai Move,’ alleging a plot to topple Anwar and the unity government orchestrated by Perikatan Nasional leaders while holidaying in the United Arab Emirates.
