THE High Priority Flood Mitigation Project (TBBT) programme is currently in the procument stage, says Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
He said under the programme, the federal government has approved an allocation amounting to RM316,282,000 to mitigate coastal flooding and erosion in 17 areas in Sarawak.
“With the allocation, currently, the project is in the procurement stage,” said Dr Rundi when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Tuesday (May 14).
Meanwhile, he said under federal funding, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) currently has four coastal erosion protection projects with a total
allocation of RM76.05mil.
“One project is completed while two are currently under construction and expected to be completed this year.
“Another one is expected to be tendered in June 2024.”
Dr Rundi said for state funding, the department has been approved two coastal projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) with a total allocation of RM168,170,000.00.
“One project is expected to be tendered in September 2024, and another is expected to be tendered in June 2025.”
Under the RMK12, Dr Rundi said the federal government has allocated funds amounting to RM35mil for River Rehabilitation Works To Reduce Flood Risk.
“The allocation is for the implementation of riverbank protection projects and river clearing works to reduce flood risk based on the priority and critical areas throughout the state.
“In 2024, the fund approved for the year is RM4mil and all the projects are scheduled to be completed latest by December 2024.”
