KUCHING (Oct 20): A total of 502 saplings of the high-value indigenous species such as belian, meranti and kapur were planted during the Greening Sarawak Campaign held at Sabal Forest Reserve yesterday.
In a press release, the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) said it teamed up with Chemsain Konsultant Sdn Bhd and Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) for this latest tree planting programme.
According to FDS, the programme has contributed to the cumulative number of trees planted in Sarawak, surpassing 35 million, which is the highest among states in Malaysia
“FDS extends its appreciation to all parties and is delighted to have brought together significant public participation to preserve the environment,” said the press release.
The programme saw the participation of 100 representatives, including members of the community of Sabal.
Chemsain director Brian Chong, JBALB deputy director Thomas Lucas Santang and FDS officer Rohanie Bohan were among those in attendance.
