KUCHING: Hope Place recently visited a woman living in Sungai Tengah, Matang here with her elderly parents.

Jobless and with multiple chronic sickness, Chai Siew Kim, 49, is in critical condition and needs constant care and supervision.

“Back in 2006, Siew Kim was diagnosed with system lupus erythematous (SLE), a condition whereby her antibody is attacking her own body. Because of SLE, her physical body is very weak and she is wheelchair bound.

“She always needs people to help her to move about. She also has kidney failure and goes dialysis three times weekly. Furthermore, she has end stage renal failure, which makes her visually impaired,” the NGO said.

Hope Place added that Siew Kim used to be a beansprout grower and seller at Mile 7.

“Her family owns a big compound and her parents grow and sell local fruits as well.

“However, after her health deteriorated in 2006, she had to fully depend on her aging parents.

“Now, because her parents are very old, her brother takes over the family business and is the sole bread winner of the whole family.”

Hope Place revealed that Siew Kim was admitted to the hospital last week.

“According to her family, Siew Kim was undergoing a dialysis session and suddenly she felt very sick.

“Her family quickly rushed her to the hospital and has been there ever since.”

Hope Place is currently supporting the family with continuous food supplies.

Socso has also given Siew Kim a wheelchair and walking cane for her convenience.
