KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a hot weather warning for two areas in Sarawak.
The two areas are in Sri Aman and Bintulu, of which these areas recorded Level 1 hot weather conditions (alert).
According to the department’s website, the alert was issued on July 26 and updated at 6am today.
A Level 1 warning is issued when temperatures at a location are between 35 degrees Celsius and 37 degree Celsius for three consecutive days.
MetMalaysia on July 22 said that two tropical cyclones, categorised as a typhoon and a tropical storm, are currently active in the northeast of the Philippines and the South China Sea near Hainan Island.
“This situation is causing the weather in the country to become drier with less rainfall over the next few days.
“Based on weather model analyses, conditions are expected to return to normal from July 27,” the department said.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak State Health Department in a Facebook post has urged the public to take necessary precautions during the hot weather.
“Everyone is advised to take precautionary measures by ensuring adequate hydration and reducing strenuous physical activities and other outdoor activities during the current hot weather season,” it said.
The department also said that prolonged exposure to hot weather can increase the risk of heat stroke.
“The public is advised to follow tips for staying healthy during the hot season, such as reducing exposure to the heat and maintaining a healthy diet to ensure optimal health,” it said.
