House breaking and theft cases on the rise first half of 2024

KUCHING: The Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) revealed that the city recorded a slight increase in housebreaking and theft cases this year compared to last year’s figures.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said that 112 cases, involving losses amounting to RM345,435 have been recorded from January to June this year.

“This marks an increase of 61 cases compared to last year’s figure for the same corresponding period, which recorded 51 cases.

“In addition, police have arrested a total of 32 individuals and recovered goods worth RM32,152 from January to June this year,” he said during a press conference today (July 10).

He pointed out that 14 cases have been prosecuted in court and a total of 37 cases have been resolved.

In response to the rise of burglaries, police encourage the public to report any information regarding such incidents in their areas to the Kuching IPD operations centre at 082-244444 or the nearest police stations.

Housebreaking is an offence under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment up to five years and shall also be liable to fine.
