HUS historical records accept the first Islamic religious organ donor

KUCHING, Sept 17: Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) recorded a historic moment when it received the first Muslim organ donor on September 15.

HUS announced through a Facebook post that the donor families' decision to donate organs was made in an atmosphere of grief, but they still showed strength, concern and understanding to give hope and life opportunities to other human beings.

"In a deeply sad atmosphere, the donor families showed extraordinary strength, concern and understanding when choosing to give hope and the gift of life to others", according to the statement today.

According to HUS, Sarawak General Hospital Organ Procurement Unit (UPOH HUS) also guides and supports families throughout the organ donation process.

"Together with the National Transplant Resource Center, the team works tirelessly to ensure that the donation process is conducted with dignity, sensitivity and respect for family religious holdings", according to the statement.

HUS also acknowledged the families of the donors for their positive decision which gave the recipients an opportunity to continue living.
