KUCHING (Sept 12): The Magistrates’ Court here today placed a man who threatened to smash his wife’s car window on a six-month good behaviour bond with a surety of RM500.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan issued the order against Azwan Karim, 30, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

According to the facts of the case, Azwan’s wife was driving towards Jalan Sultan Tengah here on Sept 8 at 4.05pm, when he blocked her way with a motorcycle.

He then threatened to break the car window.

His mother-in-law, who was in the back seat, witnessed the incident.

Fearing for her safety and that of her family, his mother-in-law lodged a police report, which led to Azwan’s arrest.

The investigation revealed that besides blocking his wife’s car on the road, Azwan also opened the car door and roughly pulled out his eldest child, which led the child to cry out in fear.

As the incident occurred on a public road, it also posed a danger to other road users, as well as disturbed public order.

Prosecuting officer ASP Suziana Suleiman handled the prosecution, while Azwan was unrepresented by legal counsel.
