KUCHING, Sept 23: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has called for tighter monitoring of Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) holders who operate businesses in the country without authorisation.

In a Facebook post, MOTAC Minister Dato Seri Tiong King Sing revealed that the issue was highlighted during a recent high-level review of the MM2H programme.

The meeting also addressed operational bottlenecks, including lengthy security-screening processes, inconsistent application timelines, and compliance violations by visa holders.

“We have asked the relevant agencies to strengthen monitoring to prevent the MM2H programme from being misused for unauthorised business activities,” he said.

To enforce compliance, MOTAC has directed the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) to step up surveillance on visa holders.

“Particular attention will be given to individuals participating in commercial ventures despite lacking the required permits or failing to fulfil legal criteria,” he added.

Tiong emphasised that regulatory enforcement is essential to maintaining the credibility of the residency scheme and ensuring participants strictly adhere to its visa conditions.

Moving forward, he urged continued inter-agency cooperation between MOTAC, law enforcement, and immigration authorities to protect the integrity of the programme while safeguarding the interests of legitimate stakeholders. — DayakDaily
